The Client

Retired police officer Sean Westlake has a wealth of knowledge about Mid Wales, where he has lived and worked for 30 years. He wanted to combine that with his passion for motorbikes when he set up his new business. So, he founded Mid Wales Tours, helping people see a different side of the landscape with his motorcycle and sidecar tours. It’s definitely a unique tourism experience! Sean took 18 months to plan his new business and get everything ready and became a member of the Wales Official Tourist Guide Association, the only tourist guides recognised by the Welsh Government and FEG, the Federation of European Guides. Getting that qualification allows Sean to provide the motorcycle and sidecar tours, along with walking, single site, and coach guided tours. Now, his tours include a coast, castles, and lakes tour taking in Aberystwyth, Harlech, and Bala, an abbey and bridges tour visiting Strata Florida and Devil’s Bridge, and custom-designed tours.

The Brief

We were asked to create recognisable branding for the new business and a website that fitted in with company brand guidelines. The website needed to generate interest and bookings for the full day and half-day tours.

 

The site also needed to integrate ecommerce, allowing clients to book tours easily online, and Sean asked us to include a video header for impact, an enquiry form, and a blog. We also needed to ensure Sean and his team can work the back end of the site, so we provided online CMS training too.

The scope of high-quality professional images and videos to transform the look and feel of a website was really evident in this project – not just in showcasing the beautiful mid Wales landscape but in conveying the character, style and experience of the tours themselves.

The Solution

We created effective company brand guidelines so that Sean’s branding is fun, consistent, and memorable online, including on the website and social media accounts, and offline on business cards, T-shirts, and other promotional materials.

 

We also delivered an attention-grabbing website that hooks people into the Mid Wales Tours experience, effectively showcasing Sean’s high impact videos and pictures. An availability calendar with ecommerce functionality allows Sean to take bookings whilst he’s out and about delivering a tour. That saves him time and money and cuts down on the hassle of having to reply to people’s enquiries at the end of a tour.

 

The booking system also ensures that Sean can’t get double booked. Sean’s website has become his shop front, till system, and organizer. It works 24/7 while he focuses on doing what he loves most.

Other Challenges

Sean had a dream for his start-up business, and we helped him make that dream a reality. We took the time to find out about his vision, how he’d like his business to work, and the sort of clients he wants to attract to his tours. Then, we gave him impactful branding and a hard-working website that’s available to book tours 24/7. Having spent time with Sean, we realised he’s a true storyteller! That talent can be harnessed to help him market his business in blog posts. The blog facility we gave him is the platform he can use to reach and engage a new audience online.
