Established in April 2020, Carmarthen BID aims to give 400 businesses and service providers in this historic town a brighter future. Its goals are to raise the profile of the town, improve business profitability, reduce the number of empty properties in the town centre, and improve the parking experience for shoppers. The BID is financed by a small levy on the businesses rates of the businesses in the qualifying area of town. These funds are collected by the Carmarthenshire County Council rates team and send on to the BID company, which is managed by a board of directors made up of representatives of local businesses and other local organisations, with one seat occupied by the county council.
The BID team wanted a new business directory website to promote businesses in Carmarthen, encourage visits to the town, and to get consumers to spend money in their shops. The website needed to be bilingual with a members’ log in area, and an events calendar.
The scope of high-quality professional images to transform the look and feel of a website was really evident in this project – not just in showcasing the businesses but in conveying the character, style and experience of Carmarthen town itself.
We designed and developed a first-class bilingual website, the perfect platform to promote all the businesses that Carmarthen BID supports.
The BID team wanted to help the website users easily discover Carmarthen businesses and inspire them to visit and spend money in the town, so we ensured they had an easy-to-use interactive map, a plan your day page containing details of transport links, parking, and maps, an events page, and a news page.
The BID team took on the challenge of providing us with information for the businesses they support, a time-consuming process for them. They did an excellent job, though, and we were given everything we needed. To have a truly bilingual website, you need to have a site that will take you to the equivalent page in Welsh if you switch languages, rather than back to the home page as many sites do. We have provided that for other clients and won the Carmarthen BID tender after being recommended to them by another digital agency. We won the tender because we came up with ideas that the BID team hadn’t considered – including having an interactive map.
The WebAdept team worked with the Carmarthen BID to identify our needs and requirements and then put solutions in place for us. The training videos and ongoing support from technicians have proven invaluable as we start to populate the site more fully. Thrilled with the branding exercise and the visuals we have achieved.
